About the Project
As a native of Hallstatt, director and cinematographer Alexander Binder undertakes a cinematic deep drill into the soul of his world-famous hometown—often reduced to mere postcard cliches. 'Moments in Time - Now is Hallstatt Time' looks behind the scenes of official grand history to create a complex, multi-layered, and highly authentic portrait of a unique community.
Binder unearthed extensive, long-lost historical archive footage for the project. These discoveries range from historical celluloid footprints of prominent visitors like Marlene Dietrich, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Luis Trenker, and Carl Zuckmayer, to dramatic localized events like the spectacular demolition of the historic Villa Franziska. He contrasts these historical fragments with close, sensitive contemporary portraits of today's Hallstatt residents.

Hallstatt Metronome of Time
